Meet the Team – Tammy Kausits

What is your position at 12 Gates?
Bar Manager

Tell us how long you’ve been with the company and what the best part of it is?
I started 12 Gates December 2016. The best part is getting to work in an industry I love, craft beer. My favorite is our Buffalo Tripel.

What made you want to join the 12 Gates team?
After moving here from Boston I heard about 12 Gates through word-of-mouth. After becoming a customer I thought that it would also be a great fit for a job too. I love the hospitality industry, craft beer, meeting new people, and it’s close to where I live. I must say, I’m enjoying every minute of it!

Have you always worked in the service industry?
Yes, since I was 17 years old.

You just passed your Cicerone BSC. Was there anything you learned studying for it that surprised you, or that people might not know that was interesting?
First off, I’ll say it wasn’t easy prepping for the test! Going through the study process helped me gain knowledge of how complicated the brewing process really is. I also learned how simple things such as water quality or slight temperature adjustment can have such a huge impact on the results. Brewing is a combination of art and science. I’ve came away with an even deeper appreciation for our brewmaster Scott Shuler and the rest of the team, they are truely artisans.

Do you get to visit your hometown of Boston often?
Not as often as I would like to, I’m a bit of a work-a-holic.

Are there any craft breweries there we should keep an eye on?
I would highly recommend Trillium Brewing Company. I lived next to the taproom on Congress Street and they always had a lineup of people waiting for when they opened.

Your kids live out of state. Do they typically come to visit Buffalo more frequently or do you travel to see them?
We do both. They were just here in Buffalo for Labor Day and had an amazing time. We usually go to Boston in October to see a Celtic’s game (my daughter Lindsay’s favorite team). We also love Miami in the winter months and having Lindsay as a tour guide to show us all the cool places.

You’re a big sports fan. What’s your most memorable moment watching a game?
In 2015 Tom Brady threw the football to Julian Edelman (who was a QB at Kent State) and Julian threw a 51 yard pass to Danny Amendola for a touchdown. What a great moment to watch! That play it still gives me goosebumps.

If you were to trade in your Mini Cooper Convertible, what would it be for?
I’m big into cars and admit to be a little spoiled when it comes to them. I have a 2016 Convertible Corvette too. If I were to trade in my Mini though, I would love a Porsche Carrera 911!
