What is your position at 12 gates brewery?
My title at 12 Gates is assistant brewer.
What made you want to become an assistant brewer at 12 Gates?
I was in the market for a career change and had been interested in all aspects of brewing for some time. This opportunity came up at the right time.
You’ve been with the company since 2015. What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of being a brewer is the first taste of a new beer directly out of the brite tank.
Are you a homebrewer? If so, have you had any surprising results (good or bad)?
I started home brewing with my brother-in-law when we were both in graduate school. My biggest surprise was that brewing is very similar to lab chemistry, just much simpler.
Did being a chemistry professor at Syracuse University help you with learning the brewing process?
I learned about the brewing process prior to working at SU; however, my previous positions have helped me figure out what I value about a work environment and that brewing full time meets those criteria.

Saison Dupont
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Interesting question, it was brewing when I was a chemist, now I spend nearly all my “spare time” taking care of my son.
You became a father this year. What’s one thing you didn’t expect when you became a parent?
My expectations vanished when Zaiden was born. He is growing up rapidly; I didn’t expect him to change from one day to the next.
